The federal government’s decision to give the entertainment sector the attention and support it needs to flourish will have a significant influence on the economy, according to Nigerian actress Ini Edo.

Despite being the sector that generates the most money in the nation, according to her, some of the biggest obstacles included insufficient public support and a lack of the appropriate structures.

When pressed to elaborate on her statement that Nigeria’s developmental issues are reflected in the film industry, the seasoned actress said this in an interview with the Punch. Ini Edo declared:

“It is one of the most lucrative sectors in the nation. In addition to the large investments and the number of individuals removed off the streets, it offers jobs to millions of young people. I believe the government would ensure that the proper mechanisms are put in place so that the sector may flourish if only those in positions of authority recognize the potential contribution that the film industry can make to Nigeria’s economy.

It is one thing to see (potential); it is a different ball game to do something about it. Imagine me having a production like Shanty Town, and I had to fund it myself. There was no support from anyone. The poor electricity supply is a problem, and the cost of production is very high. There is no way that it favours one.”

Ini Edo added:

“I brought up the aspect of the government. Finances is another factor. The industry looks to have a lot of funding challenges, but I believe things are improving because anyone can approach one and say they want to invest (in the industry).

Since the publication of Shanty Town, I’ve heard that from a few different folks. That implies that if our industry keeps developing and expanding, obtaining funding will become less of a problem.
