A spokesperson for the Labour Party (LP) presidential campaign team, Kenneth Okonkwo has reacted to speculations that the party is set to peg its governorship nomination form at N25 million.
Okonkwo hinted that the speculation is not true and runs contrary to the ideals of the party.
Naija News reports there had been rumours that the Labour Party pegged its governorship form for Imo state at N25 million and the development has been attracting mixed reactions.
However, taking to his Twitter page on Monday, Okonkwo said the public should be rest assured Labour Party won’t go that way.
The actor cum politician said the alleged N25m is exorbitant and will not be encouraged because a new Nigeria will not be possible with such a development.
He stated that the party would fina an acceptable nomination fee for the people of Nigeria as competent leadership is beter than enabling money bags to steal power.
He wrote: “It has been brought to our notice that Labour Party is charging N25m as nomination fee for gubernatorial aspirants. The general public should have peace of mind knowing that the Labour Party will not revert to the previous system.
“The Party’s Constitution frowns at any action that will constitute a hindrance to the participation of any Nigerian in governance at any level.
“N25m is exorbitant and will not be encouraged. Article 8(h) of Labour Party Constitution states, “To broaden participation in governance at all levels by ensuring that the costs of theelectoral process do not constitute hindrance to any Nigerian”.
“A new Nigeria is possible and we must continue in that trajectory.
“The Party will find an acceptable nomination fee for the people of Nigeria. Money bags are not preferred over honest and capable leadership.
