Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s nominee for president, has stated he will reject any invitation to join Bola Tinubu’s Cabinet of National Unity.
Obi has sued Tinubu, the president-elect, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the results of the election on February 25.
The APC candidate’s campaign made hints that the former governor of Lagos would build an inclusive administration and include all of his rivals.
On Thursday, when Obi was a guest on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, he was asked what he would do if asked to join Tinubu’s Government of National Unity.
Obi responded by stating that he was still contesting the election and declaration processes.
He believed that the election process needed to be corrected before anyone could discuss the Government of National Unity.
“I want to make sure the method is correct initially. The method by which you do something is considerably more important than what you do thereafter. Let’s go back to the beginning since I’m questioning the proclamation and the procedure.
We won’t be able to discuss a government of national unity until we get it right. Instead, we would retire to a chair and inform those who stopped a train and kidnapped individuals that they may contact us to discuss peace when they had individuals in their custody. We will be encouraging things we don’t need to encourage until things are done correctly, he said.
Obi responded that he would be startled if the court upheld Tinubu’s election when asked if he would accept the result if it was not in his favor.
He said: “Court will settle election-related disputes. If that state of affairs continues in this nation, I will be shocked. The fact that the country has been corporately criminalized will then stand. We cannot permit it. We must begin disentangling this wickedness.
“We want to unbundle it for the benefit of our children because while people were talking about structure, it was this fraud and criminality that we observed.”
The former governor of Anambra State expressed his confidence in the judiciary’s ability to uphold justice.
