The search for a strong running mate for the 2023 presidential election is now being conducted by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress, APC’s presidential candidate, according to Ondo State Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

The Governor made the point that choosing Tinubu’s running mate is tough for the former governor of Lagos State since so many considerations are taken into account.

Governor Akeredolu focused his case on the zone, loyalty, and the area with the most votes while ignoring the religious issue that has dominated public discourse among Nigerians. He then listed the considerations that had the APC nominee scratching his head.

On Monday night’s episode of Politics Today on Channels Television, the Governor said, “The situation Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu has found himself in right now is a matter of what I’ll term ground-wetting. He won’t choose, for example, from the South. He must now choose from options in the North.

He won’t choose from the South-East or South-South since he is from the South; instead, because he is from the South-West, he must choose from the North.

“And a lot of elements will need to be taken into account when looking at the North. Some may advise choosing from the Northwest. However, the President currently hails from the North West.

Will they take another mouthful, whether out of vice or otherwise? Some may respond, “Why not choose from the North East?” That should be taken into account.

Others could respond, “Why not choose from North Central? “Okay, where do you get votes?” is a further consideration.

“So many variables, but given the situation, I believe he has likely left with the North Central and North East since there are so many variables that could be in play.

“Therefore, you must consider loyalty while choosing a candidate. Will this individual support you or is he just there to bring you down? You should take those into careful consideration.
