The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have disputed the claim made by President Muhammadu Buhari that the group is responsible for pipeline destruction and oil theft in the country.

Buhari said that the oil theft and devastation committed by IPOB were to blame for the country’s daily output quota failure in an interview with Bloomberg.

President Buhari also urged other nations to identify IPOB as a terrorist organization and accused the world communities of sponsoring the separatist organization.

He had said: “Criminality and terrorism in oil-producing regions restrict output, and it would assist if our western partners branded IPOB as a terrorist group, given their cooperation in damage to pipelines and infrastructure.

“We implore those same international partners to adopt further, free of charge measures by designating IPOB as a terrorist organization.”

The IPOB Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, responded to the accusation by saying that it was incorrect for the President to associate the organization with the destruction of infrastructure, including oil pipelines.

Powerful slammed the accusation as humorous and laughable, saying that the direction to foreign governments to classify IPOB as a terrorist organization is uncalled for.

The realization of the “Biafra freedom battle” was the only thing that interested IPOB, according to the group’s spokesman. The group’s leadership, he continued, was considering Buhari’s remarks and will respond to him accordingly.
