A video recording the moment a UK court sentenced former Senate Vice President Ike Ekweremadu to 9 years and 8 months for organ harvesting has surfaced on social media.
Naija News previously reported that the senator’s wife, Beatrice, had been sentenced to four years and six months.
Their doctor, Obinna Obeta, was jailed for 10 years while his medical license was revoked.
Recall that a court in the United Kingdom, on March 23, found the former vice president of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, his wife, Beatrice, guilty of organ harvesting in the country.
The former Speaker of the Senate has been arrested by the Metropolitan Police in London following an intelligence report.
He was later arrested for organ harvesting and trafficking under UK modern slavery laws.
He is said to have arranged for a young man, David Ukpo, to travel from the streets of Lagos State for this purpose.
The alleged kidney donor notified the hospital in England, claiming he was unaware he had been brought into the country to donate a kidney to Ekweremadu’s daughter Sonia.
But Ekweremadu and his wife have pleaded not guilty, saying they were “deceived”.
