The United States will send two new destroyers to the Rota Naval Station in Spain, according to President Joe Biden’s announcement on Tuesday. With this addition, there are now six US warships stationed there.

Together with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, he declared, “As I indicated before the war if Putin attacked Ukraine, the United States would boost our force posture in Europe and respond to the reality of a new European security environment.”

“When taken as a whole, the new promises will be a striking demonstration of ally unity and resolution as well as NATO’s all-encompassing approach to our security.”

Then on Wednesday, Biden announced changes to the American force posture as part of this week’s NATO meeting in Madrid, in an effort to counter a more severe and aggravating Russian threat.
