Don’t blame Nollywood for ritual killings, says actor Yul Edochie in response to the House of Representatives.

Yul Edochie, an actor, has responded to charges made by the House of Representatives that Nollywood is partly to blame for an increase in the number of ritual killings in the country.

During plenary on Wednesday, the House of Representatives called for the declaration of a state of emergency on ritual killings in the country, blaming the scourge in part on the Nollywood industry and instructing all stakeholders to launch a national campaign to change people’s attitudes toward the crime.

On his Instagram feed, the actor responded to the House of Representatives’ indictment on Friday, saying,

From when I was a kid in the eighties, I started hearing about ritual killing in Nigeria. Then, there was no Nollywood. Hunger and poverty make people to do crime. No, be Nollywood cause am. Nollywood is only showing what happens in society. Nigerians are wallowing in extreme poverty. A hungry man is an angry man.

Fix the country and crime will go away. Don’t blame Nollywood.
