Olukayode Salako, the former chairman of the Labour Party (LP) in Lagos State, has charged Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the party’s candidate for governor, with hatching a scheme to unseat him.

Salako claimed that he was forced to resign as a result of claims that he was a mole in the party and was working for Bola Tinubu, the APC’s presidential candidate.

He emphasized that Peter Obi’s fans, sometimes called as “Obidients,” accused him of preparing to utilize funds provided to help Rhodes-campaign Vivour’s for personal expenses or labor for Tinubu.

In an interview with The Punch, Salako said that Rhodes-Vivour had betrayed him by taking him to the party’s Forum of Leaders and Elders’ Council for failing to act honorably.

“I didn’t quit as chairman, I was made to step down,” he claimed. The Obidients said that because my wife worked for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s presidential campaign and the All Progressives Congress, they could not trust me with the campaign cash that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate, wanted to bring to Lagos.

They said that I was a mole in the Labour Party because they perceived me as Tinubu’s ally. They warned that I would redirect any money transferred to Lagos for my own use or to work for Tinubu. I was compelled to move aside due to such factors.

“I was no mole. My dismissal was arranged by Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, whom I discovered and for whom I worked arduously to secure the gubernatorial ticket. He turned on me. As the party’s governorship candidate, he wasn’t doing well, so I reported him to the Elders’ Council and Forum of Leaders of the party so they could advise him to act morally.

Instead, he changed his mind and turned on me, becoming vengeful. He pushed me aside and was interacting with unfamiliar individuals who were unsure of how he obtained the ticket.

Salako said he felt mistreated and betrayed by the party’s chapter in Lagos State, and he is not at all pleased with the current state of affairs.

“He didn’t run anything by me,” he continued, “and because there was no way he could work without working with the state chairman of the party, he chose to work with some people for my removal. He did that in collusion with the current state chairman of the party, Dayo Ekong; the secretary, Sam Okpala; and his running mate, Islamiyat Oyefusi. They all believed that I was a mole who would prevent them from winning Lagos State, but the events that followed are clear.

The day after receiving the ticket, he began acting inappropriately. But, I couldn’t turn around at that moment because I was already deeply invested. I have to keep pushing for him to win the election. He grew haughty and intolerant of different viewpoints after receiving the ticket, and he began referring to himself as my leader. His type is unfit to run a local government, much less take over Lagos.

He did not transport me. Because they viewed me as Tinubu’s snitch, I managed the state party chairmanship for five months without receiving any “shishi.” Although Gbadebo and those party chieftains in Lagos betrayed me, I did not betray anyone else, and God does not reward treason. I am not thrilled at all since I felt misled and mistreated by the Lagos State Labour Party chapter.
