At the end of the 2022-23 Premier League season, four Nigerian Super Eagles players – Wilfred Ndidi, Kelechi Ihenacho, Paul Onuachu and Joe Aribo followed their clubs to the Championship.

Alex Iwobi’s Everton avoided relegation on the final day of the Premier League season, May 28, but compatriots Ndidi and Ihenacho were relegated to the Championship with 2016 champions Leicester City on the same day.

Everton have racked up 36 points from 38 games, two more than Leicester, to survive the relegation battle.

Iwobi was there in the Toffees’ 1-0 win over Bournemouth on Sunday, giving them a 69th consecutive Premier League season. The Toffees have now managed to secure the lead twice in a row on the final day of the season. Abdoulaye Docouré’s 57th-minute goal gave Everton the win, rejoicing nervous Toffees supporters.

Iwobi, who has two goals and seven assists this season, is said to be considering his future at Goodison Park. But it remains unclear whether Everton’s existence in the league will affect his stay at the club a bit longer.

Although Leicester City beat West Ham United 2-1, that was not enough to stop them from going down.

Despite being sidelined for most of the season, Iheanacho has scored nine goals and provided four assists for Leicester City. But his efforts were not enough to stop Leicester City from falling.

Before the final day of the Premier League, Super Eagles players Onuachu and Aribo were dropped from the Championship alongside Southampton, meaning that at least four Super Eagles players were relegated with Premier League clubs in 2022-2023 season.
