Five people have now been confirmed deceased after a bus on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway caught fire while it was moving.

According to DAILY POST, the accident happened on Wednesday at about 8:38 a.m. in Ogere, Ogun State, in front of Tabiorah Church.

The Toyota Hiace bus, bearing the license plate KAA601XA, was carrying 14 people at the time of the incident: seven men, four women, a boy, and two girls.

“The probable cause of the lone crash was mechanical deficiency which led to a fire outbreak while the car was still in motion,” said Florence Okpe, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) spokesman for Ogun State.

Two adult males, one adult female, and two girls are among the deceased victims, according to Okpe.

Nine people, including five adult males, three adult females, and a boy, were injured, she continued.

According to Okpe, the dead were left at FOS Mogue in Ipara while the injured were brought to Victory Hospital in Ogere.

“The Sector Commander is very saddened by the terrible tragedy and sends his condolences to the departed’s families.

Before planning any vacation, he also recommended that drivers keep their cars in good condition, according to Okpe.
