Adel Amrouche, the head coach of Tanzania, was fired by the Tanzanian Football Federation shortly after an AFCON 2023 match in Ivory Coast.
On January 17, Tanzania’s national team faced Morocco in the tournament’s opening Group F match under the direction of coach Adel Amrouche.
Tanzania was unable to mount a comeback from a goal behind in the 70th minute of play due to Novatus Miroshi’s red card.
Morocco easily scored two more goals in their 3-0 victory over Tanzania to take first place in Group F with three points, two points ahead of second-placed DR Congo and third-placed Zambia following Miroshi’s departure.
Coach Adel Amrouche reacted to the game’s result by accusing Morocco of choosing their match officials and making decisions on behalf of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
“Morocco determines everything in African football, they also choose their referees. We remain spectators because they determine everything,” he said
The CAF decided to punish Adel Amrouche $10,000 and suspend him for eight matches as a result of his remarks.
The Algerian tactician’s extended ban led Tanzania FA to decide to fire him and name assistant coach Hemed Morocco in his stead for their upcoming group stage match against Zambia on Sunday, January 21 at 6 p.m.
“In another step, the Executive Committee of the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) has suspended Coach Adel Amrouche”, a statement from Tanzania FA read.
“As a result of that decision, Hemed Morocco has been appointed as Acting Coach, and he will be assisted by Juma Mgunda.”
