Erling Haaland of Manchester City will be unavailable for the Norwegian national team’s 2024 qualification match against Scotland on Sunday, November 19.

The Norwegian Football Federation confirmed earlier today, November 18, that Haaland would be unable to play in the crucial game and would have to return to Manchester City to recover.

“He is in so much pain and somewhat restricted function that the Scotland game unfortunately comes a little too early,” Norway national team doctor Ola Sand announced via the Norwegian FA official website.

Haaland, 23, suffered the injury during Norway’s friendly victory over the Faroe Islands on Thursday.

Despite the fact that the reigning Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup champion would miss the qualification game due to injury, the Norwegian FA clarified that the ailment is not as bad as initially thought.

It is unclear whether Haaland will miss Manchester City’s Premier League game against Liverpool on Saturday, November 25, owing to the injury at the time of writing.

Scotland and Spain have qualified for the finals, which will be held in Germany next summer, while Norway, who is presently third in their group, may proceed via the play-offs.

According to Norway, Haaland, who has 27 goals in 29 senior international games, including one against Scotland in June, will not be replaced on the team.

On Sunday, Scotland and Norway will meet at Hampden Park, while Spain will host Georgia. Scotland leads Group A by two points over second-placed Spain heading into the final round of qualification games after defeating Norway 2-1 in Oslo.
