Tanzanian singer-songwriter Faustina Charles Mfinanga is better known by her stage name Nandy. She was born in Moshi on November 9th, 1992. Mfinanga went to Mawenzi Primary School before enrolling at Lomwe High School, where she rose to the position of school choir director.

At a very young age, she began to perform. She began participating in the Sunday school choir at age 5 at the KKKT Lutheran church in Moshi.

She began her profession after being introduced to Ruge Mutahaba, the CEO of Tanzania House of Talent, through a common friend (THT). She met Emma the Boy, who helped her create Nagusa gusa, her debut chart-topper. Within a week of its debut, this song rose to fame.

With a music that incorporates elements of dancehall, hip-hop, reggae, R&B, and Afrobeat, Nandy first appeared in the early 2010s.

Nandy’s hit single One Day, which was released in 2017, launched her career and opened up a number of opportunities for her. She was one of the few artists to participate in Coke Studio Africa that year, and later that year, she was nominated for and went on to win the All Africa Music Award for Best Female in Eastern Africa.

She made a spectacular debut with the song Nagusa Gusa, and with the subsequent hits “One Day,” “Aibu,” and “Njiwa,” she cemented her position in the East African music arena. The singles “Kata,” “Woule,” and “Dozi” will be available in 2020 after she published her debut full-length album The African Princess in 2018.

In April 2018, Tanzanian police briefly detained Nandy and Bill Nass for uploading what they deemed to be inappropriate or offensive content online.

Mfinanga is now Tanzania’s Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF’s water, sanitation, and hygiene program, which aims to increase access to water and sanitation services as well as fundamental hygiene practices in more than 100 countries across the world.
