On Sunday, the Nigeria Football Federation announced Jose Peseiro as the next national team coach.

Peseiro, though, has only been given a one-year deal to lead the Super Eagles, according to OwnGoalNigeria.

The 12-month contract can be renewed based on performance clauses.

Because of their legal struggle against overcompensation with former Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr, the NFF is believed to have offered Peseiro a short-term contract.

FIFA has previously ordered the federation to compensate Rohr with $380,000 for breach of contract.

The friendlies against Ecuador and Mexico in the United States will be Peseiro’s first games in command.

The qualifications for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations will follow the games.
