Members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) clashed with unidentified gunmen in Ihiala, Anambra State, on Friday.

According to reports, IPOB members believed to be from its militia wing, the Eastern Security Network, killed five of the unknown gunmen.

People in the two towns reportedly hailed IPOB operatives as they drove the gunmen’s bodies in a Hilux van towards the Onitsha-Owerri expressway.

“That is correct. “The incident occurred during a clash between IPOB and unknown gunmen at Akwa village in Ihiala,” an eyewitness told Vanguard.

“The gunmen have a camp in Oseakwa from which they have terrorized Ihiala, Okija, Uli, and other neighboring communities.”

“The gunmen have been disrupting burials for some time, demanding to be settled before any ceremony is held.” They are also the group responsible for kidnappings and car thefts.

“On June 17, IPOB swooped on the gunmen in their camp, killing five people in the shootout.” IPOB members loaded the bodies into a Hilux van and paraded them through the villages.”

Meanwhile, suspected Ebubeagu operatives clashed with gunmen on Friday during a burial ceremony in Ihiala.

“It was terrible,” an eyewitness said. What happened was that one Ekene, a businessman in Ihiala, was burying his late brother, and his in-laws from Imo State came to protect them with members of Ebubeagu, only to be confronted.

“The gunmen’s argument was that Ebubeagu residents should not enter Anambra State while there are people controlling the area.”

“The incident occurred in the Akwa village of Umuojimaka, and when the shooting became too intense, the family returned the corpse to the mortuary.” There is no new date for the burial.”
