Fredrick Nwajagu, the Eze Igbo of Lagos’ Ajao Estate, has threatened to call members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), an organization that is illegal, to secure Igbo property in Lagos State.

Nwajagu claimed that the necessity to bring the outlawed pro-Biafra group to the state was a result of the ongoing attacks on some Igbo people and the markets they control in a 49-second video posted on Twitter on Friday by @DeeOneAyekooto.

“IPOB, we will invite them,” the Igbo leader was heard saying. They are unemployed. The entire IPOB will defend all of our stores. And we must compensate them. For that, we must mobilize. We must carry out that. To deter them from attacking us at all hours of the day and night, we must have our own protection.

“When they learn that we have our own protection, they will know that we have our own guys there before they arrive. No words I speak are being kept a secret. I won’t keep my words to myself; let them spread widely. In Lagos State, the Igbo must be given their due.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the public relations officer for the Lagos State Police Command, responded to the video by stating that the security organization would not permit IPOB to visit the state.

In the first place, he stated, “The ever-ready @LagosPoliceNG would never fold its arms and permit such into the state.

According to Naija News, ethnic hostility between the Igbo and Yoruba groups had increased prior to the 2023 elections.

After Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, defeated Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the state in the presidential election, the situation deteriorated.

Several Igbo voters in the state stated that they were stopped from exercising their right to vote during the March 18 governorship election due to intimidation.

Fire occurrences have been reported in Igbo-dominated markets before and after the gubernatorial election, which some individuals have said was the result of arsonists targeting Igbo houses.
