A few hours after being attacked by alleged Boko Haram fighters, the Kuje Medium Correctional Center was visited by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday.

According to earlier accounts, highly armed assailants entered the federal building around 10.30 p.m. and were able to operate without being stopped for approximately an hour.

We learned that they allegedly released prisoners held at the detention facility by Boko Haram as well as other prisoners. The attack provided an opening for further inmates to escape from Kuje Prison.

In the meantime, authorities have caught more than fifty prisoners who escaped after a terrorist attack on Kuje Prison on Tuesday night.

On Wednesday, members of the Nigerian Correctional Services, NCS, re-arrested the escapees and brought them back to the jail.

This event comes hours after Bashir Magashi, the minister of defense, stated that many of the fugitive prisoners had been apprehended and returned to prison.

According to Magashi, during the terror attack, nearly 600 convicts escaped and all of the Boko Haram prisoners within the institution were freed.
