Young people from Nigeria gathered on Thursday to mark the second anniversary of the #LekkiMassacre and #EndSARS protests at the Lekki Tollgate in Lagos State.

The memorial march started on October 20, 2022, about nine in the morning, and Falz and Mr. Macaroni joined it.

During the two-week EndSARS protests that rocked the globe in October 2020, thousands of young Nigerians marched through the nation’s major cities.

The years-long torture, assault, and extrajudicial killings by police were asked to end by young people.

In remembrance of the unarmed protesters who were shot and killed on October 20, 2020 at the Lekki Tollgate while singing the national anthem and waving the Nigerian flag by security personnel, coffins were carried during the parade on Thursday.

Despite a heavy police presence, online videos show public figures and a sizeable crowd moving through Lagos’ streets.

Falz earlier announced that he will be joining the walk to “honour fallen heroes from the #LekkiMassacre #EndSARS.”

Debo Adedayo, a comedian and activist better known by his stage name Mr. Macaroni, declared that he would participate in the walk-in in support of those who had been physically assaulted by police.

“PEACEFUL WALK TOMORROW IN HONOUR OF ALL #ENDSARS AND POLICE BRUTALITY VICTIMS. WE NO GO FIT EVER FORGET!!!!” HE TWEETED.
