Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has said that he would like to see Sadio Mane of Liverpool win the Champions League so that he may win the Ballon d’Or.

The Reds face Real Madrid on Saturday, with the goal of completing a treble by winning Europe’s premier club competition.

Mane, who plays with Mendy for Senegal, has 16 Premier League goals and two assists to his name.

He has appeared in 12 Champions League matches and scored five goals.

At the start of the year, the 30-year-old also helped the Teranga Lions win their first Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title.

“Of course, I want Sadio to win the Champions League,” Mendy said to Foot Mercato.

“He’s enjoying an incredible season, he’s in contention for the Ballon d’Or, and the Champions League will be a watershed moment for him.” He is pitted against his most formidable foe. Whoever wins will be rewarded with a large number of points.”
