English-Nigerian footballer Eberechi Eze has been called up to the England squad for a Euro 2024 qualifier in June against Malta and North Macedonia.

Eberechi Eze, who has been in superb form for Crystal Palace in the 2022-23 season, has played for England Under-20s and Under-21s but has yet to make a appearance for the national team.

The 24-year-old attacking midfielder, born to Nigerian parents in England, remained eligible to play for Nigeria’s Super Eagles until he finally appeared for the Three Lions in a competitive match.

Therefore, if Eze plays Malta or North Macedonia in June, he will not be able to play for Nigeria anymore.

Naija News reports that England manager Gareth Southgate first called up Eberechi Eze ahead of the 2021 European Championships but a knee injury has kept him out of the squad. He injured his cruciate ligament before training at Palace that day. There is information that he was called to the Three Lions team 2 years ago.

This is a second chance for Eberechi Eze, who has scored 10 goals and has four assists in 39 games in all competitions this season, to try to break into England.

“We’ve loved him (Eze) for a long time, he wasn’t happy before the Euros,” said Southgate.

“We were going to call him to the prep camp and he was unfortunately injured.

“He ended the season very strong. He can play in many positions up front. Everyone I spoke to spoke of him brilliantly.
