The meeting between the Federal Government and Organized Labour to discuss the removal of fuel subsidies has been made public.

President Bola Tinubu had previously invited the leadership of the Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) to a meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, according to News. xclusivepop.

However, the meeting, which started around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, ended in a stalemate and without a consensus.

Mele Kyari, Group CEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, attended the meeting, as did Godwin Emefiele, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole, and Dele Alake, former Commissioner of Information in Lagos State.

The meeting was attended by the NLC’s National President, Joe Ajaero, and the TUC’s President, Festus Osifo.

After a lengthy meeting, the NLC President demanded that the Federal Government return to the status quo by lowering fuel prices before resuming negotiations with the NLC.

Ajaero, who criticized the removal of subsidies, was quoted as saying that the status quo should be restored before any formal engagement with the NLC in order to protect the Nigerian workforce and offer additional solutions.

He insisted that the Federal Government had not even discussed palliative measures for Nigerians, thus rejecting the latest announcement.

He expressed hope that the parties would reach a reasonable conclusion at its next adjourned meeting.
