After sacking Patrick Vieira due to a poor run of results, Crystal Palace have reappointed Roy Hodgson as manager.

Vieira, who took over at Selhurst Park from Roy Hodgson in July 2021, was fired by Palace on Friday after a 12-match losing streak in all competitions.

Hodgson, 75, stepped down as manager after failing to prevent Watford from being relegated in May 2022.

He previously stated that he had no intention of taking another Premier League managerial position after leaving Watford. He has, however, agreed to help his former club, Crystal Palace, avoid relegation this season.

It is a privilege to be asked to return to the club, which has always meant so much to me,” said Hodgson.

“Our sole objective now is to start winning matches, and to get the points necessary to ensure our Premier League status.”

“I would like to welcome Roy and Ray back to the club,” said club chairman Steve Parish. We are obviously in a difficult period, but we believe that Roy and Ray’s experience and knowledge of the club and players, together with Pad,dy, can help us meet the immediate requirement of staying in the league.”

Paddy McCarthy, who served as interim manager during Arsenal’s 4-1 defeat on Sunday, is still the club’s assistant coach. Ray Lewington has been named head coach of the first team.

Palace is currently 12th in the Premier League, three points above the drop zone, following their loss at the Emirates Stadium.
