In response, the Nigerian award-winning novelist stated that if the Nigerian president could be so ruthless to an independent liberation fighter while abstaining from and rehabilitating with bandits, then he is not capable.

In his words, he said:

“Since General Buhari’s hand is long enough to catch Nnamdi Kanu from abroad (we hope not Umaru Dikko style), perhaps he could also stretch that hand to arrest the many bandits that have abducted schoolchildren in Northern Nigeria, instead of “appealing” to bandits”

“The only thing I fault Nnamdi Kanu on is his call on his members to kill policemen and soldiers. Other than that, he is a freedom fighter. Yes, he is under arrest today. Buhari who has arrested him was himself under arrest between 1985-88. No condition is permanent”
