President Muhammadu Buhari congratulated French President Emmanuel Macron on his second term in office.

Macron’s victory also made history by making him the first sitting president of France to return in two decades.

Buhari congratulated him and stated that the iconic leadership style of the French President, who worked as an intern at the French Embassy in Nigeria for six months in 2002, continues to inspire a new generation of leaders and interest in politics and governance, beginning in his own country and beyond.

Garba Shehu, the President’s Senior Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, announced this in a statement on Monday.

Part of the statement was as follows:

“The President recognizes the warmth and friendliness that has defined Nigeria-France relations since President Macron took office in 2017, paid an official visit to Nigeria in 2018, and has consistently created lines for improved ties in the economy, culture, and security, culminating in the France-Nigeria Business Council, the African Cultures Season in 2020, and the France-Africa Summit.”

“President Buhari congratulates French President Emmanuel Macron, his wife Brigitte Macron, friends, and political associates on the historic achievement, and assures President Macron of Nigeria’s support as he continues to advocate for humanizing policies, promoting peace and stability, and encouraging development through innovation.”

“For the second term in office, the President wishes President Macron God’s guidance and wisdom.”
