The Supreme Court is allegedly preventing Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, from receiving justice, according to IPOB.
Remember that on October 13, 2022, the Justices of the Abuja Appeal Court discharged and exonerated Kanu of all allegations made against him by the Federal Government in a unanimous decision.
The Nigerian government was forbidden by the same court from bringing charges against the IPOB leader in any Nigerian court.
In a similar vein, the Umuahia High Court ruled that the Federal Government of Nigeria must send Kanu back to Kenya, from where he was kidnapped, tortured, and unusually extradited to Nigeria.
The Nigerian government has resisted freeing Kanu in spite of the judgment.
Emma Powerful, the spokesperson for IPOB, claimed that the Nigerian government has appealed the lower court’s decisions to the Supreme Court.
Powerful bemoaned the fact that the supreme court was impeding the IPOB leader’s access to justice.
“The global family and movement of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) under the leadership of the prophet Mazi Nnamdi Kanu alerts the public and the international community on the deliberate obstruction of justice by the Supreme Court of Nigeria in the case of Mazi Nnamdi KANU who is illegally detained in DSS solitary confinement,” according to a statement from Powerful.
“Yet, the illegitimate Federal Government of Nigeria disregarded its own court orders. Instead, they wrongly appealed the decision of their own lower court to the Supreme Court in an effort to obstruct justice.
“One would have expected the Supreme Court of Nigeria, being a constitutional court, to dismiss such an incorrect appeal by the lawless Federal Government of Nigeria for their disobedience to the Appeal Court Orders or to speed up the process on the case bordering on international crime and human rights abuse.
However, they purposefully chose not to set a date to hear the appeal that was brought before them. The Supreme Court has not set a date for the hearing even though their federal government appealed the decision of their Appellant Court that dismissed and acquitted Mazi Nnamdi KANU more than 100 days ago.
“The Supreme Court Justices are believed by the IPOB and Biafrans to be working along with the Federal Government to stall and obstruct KANU justice. The DSS has been holding Mazi Nnamdi KANU in solitary confinement for more than 18 months despite the fact that he did not commit any crime that could have been prosecuted in Nigeria or elsewhere.
“The Supreme Court Justices have decided to swap justice for obedience to the executive branch of the government,” the statement reads. “The Nigeria Government, who is in breach of international law of extradition and disobeying court decisions, is enjoying immunity.”
