Osita Okechukwu, an All Progressive Congress (APC) chieftain, has stated that the unwillingness to honor the power rotation principle is damaging the chances of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 election.
Okechukwu, speaking to journalists in Abuja on Sunday, cited the APC Northern Governors’ letter to President Muhammadu Buhari dated June 4, 2022, as proof that the presidential rotation between the North and South is intended to reconcile the country.
“After careful discussion, we wish to convey our clear opinion that after eight years in the office of President Muhammadu Buhari, the presidential candidate of the APC for the 2023 election should be one of our teeming members from the southern states,” he reported the governors as saying.
“It is a matter of honor for the APC, a commitment that is unaffected by the decisions of another political party.” We affirm that adhering to this value is in the best interests of creating a stronger, more united nation.”
He also quoted former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who said, “I am fully aware that it is the turn of the South to produce the next President of Nigeria.” I was present at the meeting where the Northern and Southern Leaders reached an agreement. I’m even amazed the PDP granted her ticket to another candidate from the North.
“If the North retains power after 8 years of control, it will be an injustice to the South.”
“It is an unforced fallacy to believe that he can utilize our fault lines and the plethora of northern unifier patriots.” The Northern electorate is well-educated. They supported Zik, Abiola, and Obasanjo.
“Take it or leave it, Governor Nyesom Wike’s main beef is Atiku’s violent violation of the PDP’s constitution, manipulation of Governor Aminu Tambuwal, and our fault lines.”
“I bet the wound of Machiavellian dosage that Atiku plagued the PDP will not heal before the 2023 presidential election.”
