Early Life & Background
On September 17, 1982, Asa was born in Paris to Nigerian parents who were both employed and pursuing cinematography studies there.
When she was two years old, her family moved back to Nigeria. She was born and reared in Lagos, a metropolis in Western Nigeria.
She also attended the IMFP Jazz Music School to study jazz.
Music Career
Asa’s music career began to take off when she was 18 and living in Paris.
The amazing music her father had amassed for his work as a cinematographer gradually became more and more influential on her taste in music over the years.
Her musical influences include artists like Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade, Diana Ross, Nina Simone, Marvin Gaye, Bob Marley, and others.
Asa was initially introduced to Emmanuel Asuquo of Cobhams. Later, she was signed to Naive Records, which worked with Cobhams to produce her self-titled album, “Asa.” She also had her debut single, “Eye Adaba,” released in Nigeria.
In October 2010, she issued her “Beautiful Imperfection” second studio album. In September 2010, “Be My Man,” one of the album’s lead tracks, was made available.
In August 2014, Asa released “Bed of Stone,” her third studio album. Hit singles including “Dead Again,” “Eyo,” “Satan Be Gone,” and “The One That Never Comes” are produced by the album.

Asa has received numerous honors, including the 2008 French Music Awards Victoires de la Musique nomination for “Female Artist of the Year” and the French Constantin Award.
