After the Owo atrocity, Akeredolu advised LG chairmen to set up vigilantes in their respective areas to avoid attacks
The governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has encouraged the chairmen of the state’s 18 local government councils to organize community security guards, often known as vigilantes, in their respective council areas.
According to the governor, the step will boost local security.
The governor also stated that the Ondo State Security Network Agency, commonly known as Amotekun Corps, will aid in the training of vigilantes to ensure appropriate security in their area.
Akeredolu made the remarks while receiving the state’s Chairmen of Councils on a condolence visit to the governor’s office in Alagbaka, Akure, following the gunmen’s attack on St Francis Catholic Church in Owo on Sunday.
He emphasized the importance of each local government’s vigilante unit assisting the Amotekun Corps and other state security organizations.
Despite the difficulties, Akeredolu stated that his administration will continue to pursue justice and equity.
He called the Owo attack a “terrible event devoid of dignity” and a “serious blow on mankind.”
“What those stupid terrorists did in that cathedral is impossible to grasp.” You won’t be able to comprehend it unless you’ve experienced it! To make matters worse, if you have the opportunity to visit the hospital facilities where a handful of victims are being treated, you cannot help but cry.
“I’m still perplexed as to why the attack took place. Is there a chance they’re antichrists? I’m not clear why they entered the church with the intention of murdering people. Is it true that they oppose the Catholic Church? Is it because they came to Owo that they are anti-Owo? Governor Akeredolu commented, “I don’t know what to make of that.”
On behalf of his colleagues, Mr. Augustine Oloruntogbe, Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in the state, expressed condolences to the Governor and the people of the state, especially the people of Owo and the deceased.
He praised the Governor’s efforts across the board, particularly in the security sub-sector, in restoring the state’s tranquility following the unfortunate occurrence.
