
Popcaan is a Jamaican DJ, singer, and songwriter from the parish of St. Thomas. His true name is Andrae Hugh Sutherland, and he was born on July 19, 1988.
Popcaan joined Vybz Kartel’s Gaza Music Empire in 2008. He earned his first significant international hit in 2010 with “Clarks,” a song he co-wrote with Kartel about the well-known shoe company.
2013 saw Popcaan release Where We Come From, his debut studio album, after signing a deal with Mixpak Records. In 2016, Andrae Hugh Sutherland inked deals with Warner Records and Drake’s label, OVO Sound.
Popcaan has had international success with “Only Man She Want” (2011), “Everything Nice” (2014), “Ova Dweet” (2016), “El Chapo” (2017), and “Family” (2018). (2017). The Intent 2: The Come Up was Andrae Hugh Sutherland’s debut motion picture appearance (2018).
Drake, Jamie xx, Pusha T, Giggs, Matoma, Wale, Gorillaz, and Davido are just a few of the international acts that Popcaan has collaborated with. On July 20, 2018, Forever, his second album for Mixpak Records, was released.
