Lagos-raised Damilola Afolabi, an Afropop performer, focuses on delivering a deep, danceable groove while fusing elements of reggae, R&B, and rap with Fuji’s Western Nigerian vibe.
He was the son of Taiwo Afolabi, a well-known lawyer, and entrepreneur, and was anticipated to lead one of his father’s businesses when he was born in 1993. However, when he was 14, he went to a recording studio with a friend and was inspired by a producer’s reaction to his freestyle. Following that, he created the Flyboiz rap group at Nigerian Turkish International College and released a song with them before moving to the United Kingdom to study. He released a few solo singles as L.A.X. in 2012, including “Jaye” (with Ice Prince) and “Looking for Love.”
